As someone who writes in various forms, and reads, my inspiration invariably arises from these processes. Many typical parts of exterior existence intrigue me and spark a connection but they seems to me to be passing by on a giant conveyer belt, from which I must pluck and examine by unprompted means, unencumbered by a self contrived 'brief' or planned way of thinking. Being present and recalling best describes what my work is about.

It would be insincere to make a concise statement about work that by its own intrinsic nature does not require such explanation. Janet Frame wrote about this -

'Our age has been propelled, blackmailed into becoming the Age of Explanation. I feel that literate people have almost explained themselves away. I use the word 'literate' as a fact, not a judgement... At first it was our anxiety, our unease which was explained away, but in the process, we ourselves have been disappearing.'

I have circumnavigated myself as an artist for many years, which in itself creates an interesting almost compulsive approach to forming work when there are so many possible lurking strands. It is the appearance of this work that interests me.

Writing, filmmaking, changing and making personal possessions are all ways in which I have made art.
