Emma Harding - charity shop orphans

Since 2004 I have been collecting large numbers of unwanted ornamental animals from charity shops and have been creating Charity Shop Orphans.

"There is a correlation with my childhood obsession and adult attraction. As a child ornaments had a strong draw for me. Growing up I shared a large elongated MFI dressing table with my sister. Through the centre of the table was a clear divide, my half and hers. My side always hosted a carefully orchestrated and forever altering parade of animal ornaments."

The project involves giving each orphan a family identity and recreating their ornamental beauty and significance, redefining their place in my world.
